Want to Volunteer?
The Harrisburg ICO program is made possible by volunteers who give generously of their time, talents and skills. It enables outdoor-loving adults to share their appreciation of wild, natural places and enthusiasm for being outside with Harrisburg urban youth.
As an ICO volunteer, you will have an opportunity to paddle, hike, bike and camp in many of Pennsylvania's most beautiful places. At the same time, you will boost your leadership skills, expand your network, and connect with your community.
There are many way to volunteer besides participating in outing activities. Harrisburg ICO can also use your talents and expertise to help with grant-writing, fundraising, managing gear, updating social media, food purchasing, or trip planning. All ICO volunteers who work with children are required to undergo a background check.
Current volunteers
Harrisburg ICO leaders and volunteers range in age from 18 to 65. Some are experts in the fields of paddling, hiking, trail running, backpacking, field identification, or how things work. Others just love to be outdoors. All are experts in encouraging exploration, providing positive reinforcement, sharing environmental knowledge, being a role model, and teaching outdoor skills to our youth participants.
